Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council personnel and Alabama Marine Resources Division representatives will be on hand at the Five Rivers Delta Resource Center Thursday evening to take public input on federal fisheries management in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Recreational Angler Participation – or RAP – session is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Gulf Council is encouraging anyone with concerns about recreational fisheries regulations and who would like to play a role in shaping the future of recreational fisheries management to attend.
Alabama Marine Resources Director Chris Blankenship said the sessions “are just a chance for public to make comments and present their ideas to better manage federal fisheries.”
The National Marine Fisheries Service recently announced that the 2014 recreational red snapper season is expected to be 40 days long, running from June 1 through July 10.
Bag and size limits are set to remain the same at two fish per person per day and a 16-inch minimum size.
The next RAP session within driving distance of Mobile and all of south Alabama is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Destin Community Center in Destin, Fla.
People wanting to make comment but who cannot attend one of the RAP sessions will have the opportunity to do so during a Webinar scheduled for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 27.
