Ecuador’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP), has presented materials for the development oyster aquaculture.

Deputy Minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries, Guillermo Moran, said that “thanks to a coordinated effort with fisheries organisations, today begins the development of mariculture in the artisanal fisheries sector, offering a new alternative to fishermen to improve their production and income. ”

MAGAP, through the Secretariat of Aquaculture, gave support to the fisheries organisation for the fulfillment of the prerequisites to obtain a grant and technical assistance for the development of oyster culture.

The Aquaculture Undersecretary delivered materials for installation including three breeding lines, 80 lanterns for sowing, 400 flashlights for fattening, 430 buoys and more

Juan Cruz, president of the Cooperative “Puerto Real High”, thanked the support of the Government. “With this project, 50 members of our cooperative can increase their income,” he said.

The area authorised for the anchoring system is off the coast of Puerto Real Alto.
