The Spanish government expressed “satisfaction over Morocco’s ratification of the fisheries agreement with the European Union, stressing that this is “a sustainable agreement from the economic, social and environmental angles that will benefit both sides.

The agreement, which “fulfills better technical conditions than the previous protocol will allow around 90 Spanish ships, mostly traditional ones and around 715 crew members, says a release of the Spanish ministry of agriculture, food and environment.

The source went on that this “totally sustainable agreement will benefit the coastal population and contains provisions that guarantee human rights.

The four-year agreement signed last July allows fishing vessels from 11 EU countries to fish in Moroccan waters in return for an annual compensation of 30 million Euros, including 14 million earmarked to support the Moroccan fisheries sector.
