State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Dilip Wedaarachchi said Chinese investors have expressed their willingness to invest in Sri Lanka’s aquaculture sector on a large scale. The Minister said the investors expressed their willingness to invest their knowledge and technical knowhow as well as money in the sector. The Chinese investors who are engaged in large scale aquaculture industry for over 30 years met with the State minister at the Ministry on Friday and discussed in length on popularizing aquaculture in Sri Lanka. This is the second time the Chinese investors met with the State Minister Wedaarachchi. The minister said many countries in the world engaged in fisheries industry are now focusing on cultivation of aquatic plants that are in high demand in the world market as well as aquaculture Sri Lanka too has paid more attention to such cultivations. The discussions also focused on farming tuna fish (Kelawalla). Accordingly, the importance of accelerating aquaculture, Aquatic plants cultivation, and fish farming in the country was emphasized at the discussion.
