Sri Lanka Navy assisted the repatriation of 109 Indian fishermen released from Sri Lankan custody on Tuesday and brought back six Sri Lankan fishermen released from Indian custody. The fishermen on both sides have been detained for illegally fishing in each other’s territorial waters. The transfer of fishermen took place at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) in the seas north of Kankasanthurai. Sri Lanka Navy’s Fast Gun Boats SLNS Edithara ll, SLNS Wickrama ll, SLNS Prathapa and Coast Guard Craft CG 409 transported the 109 Indian fishermen who were released from Sri Lankan custody, and handed over to the Indian Coast Guard Ships Atulya and Rani Durgawati at the IMBL. Six Sri Lankan fishermen who were brought to SLNS Uthtara, were handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries- Jaffna for onward action.
