Fast Attack Craft (FAC) deployed to chase away poaching Indian trawlers off the Delft Island, yesterday (18) intercepted a trawler.
SLN headquarters said that four Indian fishers, too, had been taken into custody, along with the vessel. The trawler, with the fishermen, were brought to the Kankesanthurai Harbour and handed over to the Mailadi Fisheries Inspector for legal action.
With the latest arrests, the Navy has taken into custody 24 Indian trawlers and 182 Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan waters so far this year.
