Nine fishermen who were in the custody of the Indian authorities have been released. Assistant Director of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Lal de Silva said that the fisherman were under arrest in Chennai, India. The fisherman were arrested on charges of violating maritime fishing boundaries. The Fisheries Department said that the fisherman set off to sea from Dondra Head and Gandhara. Meanwhile, 13 Indian fisherman remain in the custody of the Sri Lankan authorities. However, 96 Indian fisherman under the custody of the Sri Lankan authorities, were recently released.
