The Sri Lanka Navy Tuesday has arrested ten local fishermen for allegedly engaged in illegal fishing practices. Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya in Kalpitiya arrested ten local fishermen, engaged in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets in the seas off Periya Arichchal and Ippanthiu, Kalpitiya on 05th April 2016. During the arrest, 5 fishing boats (Wallam) and Mono filament nets used for fishing were taken into custody. The arrested persons and the items were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries (Puttalam) for further investigations.
