The ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development says that new rules and regulations preventing engagement in commercial fishing activities, whilst under the influence of alcohol will be introduced in the future. Issuing a communiqué the Ministry said that this step would be taken in an attempt to minimize the frequency of accidents taking place at sea. The communiqué stated that just as there is a strong likelihood of accidents occurring on roadways when drivers are intoxicated, statistics show that many accidents also take place as a result of steering fishing boats under the influence.
