The Coast Guard rescued five Indian fishermen stranded in the Gulf of Mannar after their boat developed an engine snag. The Coast Guard received information that the fishing boat ‘Bolan’ with the registration number TN12/MO/864 and five of its member crew members were adrift 16 nautical miles off the Manappad coast. They have been adrift since November 16 after developing an engine failure. Upon receiving the information about stranded fishermen, Indian Coast Guard ship Abhiraj was diverted to render assistance to them and escort them back to the shore, according to Coast Guard sources at Tuticorin Coast Guard Station. Around 6.30am on November 17, the Coast Guard ship located the fishing boat. The fishermen were given medical assistance as they were dehydrated. The technical team in the ship checked the boat’s engine. The team found that boat’s engine failed because of a faulty fuel pump and repair of the engine was not feasible considering the need of spare parts and rough weather in the Gulf of Mannar. The boat with the fishermen onboard was towed back to Tuticorin harbour on Thursday. Stay updated on the go with Times of India News App. Click here to download it for your device.
