A large number of dead fish surfaced in Thumbal Pallam lake situated in Yezharaimathikadu village near Kolathur on Saturday night. The Fisheries Department has been breeding varieties such as ‘roghu’, ‘mrigal’ in the water body. On receiving information, the Fisheries Department officials rushed to the spot and inspected the lake. The officials after making inquiries with the local people, took away the water samples for testing. Meanwhile, Perumal, president of the Kolathur union inland fish wealth association, said that the association was breeding the fish varieties in cooperation with the fisheries department. Shocked The sudden surfacing of dead fish has shocked the local fishermen and the members of the association. He called upon the fisheries department officials to take steps to test the water.
