Opposing the move to establish Enayam Container Transhipment Terminal, the fishermen staged a demonstration here on Tuesday. The demonstration was led by Congress MLAs Rajesh Kumar of Killiyoor and Prince of Colachel. Mr. Rajesh Kumar said the proposed project, which had been shifted to Enayam following stiff resistance from the fishermen of Colachel and Manavaalakurichi, would wipe-out the livelihood of fishermen. Since the harbours at Vizhinjam, Kochi and Vallarpadam were effectively contributing to maritime development, there was no need for establishing one more port at Enayam. Since the Enayam port will force the fishermen to migrate from their home and make them refugees, the project should be scrapped, Mr. Rajesh added.The protestors also submitted a petition at the Collector’s office.
