Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao wants to make Telangana a surplus State in fish production so that they can facilitate the fishermen to export their produce to other States and nations to improve their earnings. Speaking to reporters after releasing fishlings into Singuru multipurpose project in Sangareddy district here on Wednesday marking the statewide release of fishlings into water bodies, the Minister said that the previous governments that had ruled the State had neglected the welfare of fishermen and other backward communities, but the Chief Minister conceived the idea of releasing fishlings into water bodies and distribution of sheep to improve the livelihood of a good number of people belonging to the backward classes. Stating that the fishermen community has benefited well with the release of fishlings into the water bodies last year, the Fisheries Minister said that they have decided to release 70 crore fishlings into water bodies this year across Telangana. To bring in transparency in the number of fishlings being released into the water bodies, the Minister said that they have created a mechanism to count the fishlings in the presence of the members of the fishermen societies besides videographing the entire process. Following the request of MLA P Babu Mohan, the Minister announced Rs 15 lakh grant to construct a fish market in Jogipet. The Minister also informed the fishermen community that they would release Bullseye Snakehead fish, locally called Korramenu, which is in great demand in the market, into the water bodies across Telangana. In an attempt to make atleast one person from the community from each district a member of the societies being formed by the State, the Minister said that they would hold elections in every district. Earlier in the day, at a press conference in Sangareddy, Yadav said that the sheep distribution programme is moving at the right pace and exuded confidence that they would soon cover all the families under the programme as promised by the Chief Minister by overcoming some teething troubles. Sangareddy MLA Chintha Prabhakar, Zilla Parishad chairperson Rajamani Murali Yadav and others were present. Earlier, addressing a press conference in Sangareddy, Yadav has said the sheep distribution programme is going at right pace and he exuded confidence that they would soon cover all the families as promised by the Chief Minister by overcoming the teething troubles.
