The State government will release 70 crore fishlings this year starting from Singur Reservoir from August 30. Speaking to media persons at Secretariat on Monday, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said the government would be releasing 70 crore fishlingsat a cost of Rs 52 crore this year. These fishlings would be released in 77 reservoirs, 4,647 lakes under Fisheries Department and 20,391 grampanchayat lakes. He explained the fish seed was procured through e-procurement process by the Joint Collectors at district level. This scheme would generate employment opportunities for Gangaputra, Besta and Mudiraj communities throughout the State, he said. The top priority would be given to the lakes where water would dry up in next 6 to 8 months, Minister said. In these water bodies, the officials would be releasing 35-40 mm length Katla, Rohu and Bangaru Teega fishes.
