Thailand Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture and Cooperative Minister Yukol Limlamthong expressed his willingness to help develop prawn farming, promote fish consumption and post harvest technology in Sri Lanka.
He made this revelation during discussions on the fisheries sectors of Thailand and Sri Lanka with Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne at the Hotel Royal Princes in Thailand recently. Thailand also agreed to assist to develop the ornamental fish industry and train aquaculture industrialists.
Thailand Deputy Prime Minister said Sri Lanka has made a remarkable progress after ending terrorism.
The government has taken measures to develop the country, he said. The measures taken by the Sri Lankan government during the post war period should be highly appreciated, he said.
Minister Senaratne said “when Sri Lanka and Thailand put their cooperation in to action, it should be according to a specific time frame. It will help make a success”.
He said the move will create a renaissance in the fisheries sector of both countries. They focused their attention on a long-term plan to develop the fisheries industry of the two countries.
