On World Fishermen’s Day, November 21, Peche and Developpement (the Fishing and Development collective, based in Lorient, France) will organize a seminar to discuss local and global issues related to marine protected areas.

The following is the proposed agenda of the meet:

Reception 9:30 a.m., Morning 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Intervention by Jean Eudes Beuret, focused on fishermen and MPAs based on the book published with Anne Cadoret “Marine protected areas, vain promises and real issues”.

As an introduction, the ICSF film on the Gulf of Mannar (Shifting undercurrents) that JE Beuret studied (in partnership with the Pêcheurs du Monde festival).

Round Table with JE Beuret, Ronan le Délézir (UBS and Gulf of Morbihan Natural Park), Brice Trouillet (geographer and research director from Valpéna, Olivier Musard from OFB, and Philippe Perrot from CRPMEM – Iroise Marine Park.

Afternoon 1:30 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.

Intervention by Margaret Nakato, WFF (World Fishermen’s Forum) on the WFF and the UN meeting in Nice on oceans and voluntary guidelines for small-scale fisheries.

Round Table with Margaret Nakato, Virginie Lagarde (member of the WFF Executive Committee),
Gabriel Lahellec (Agrocampus), Karim Sall, fisherman from Joal, Senegal and president of the artisanal fishing platform PAPAS, and Yannick Calvez, president of CDPMEM 29.

Politicians’ view on the challenges of Nice (3:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.) featuring Daniel Cueff, Vice-President of the Region, Damien Girard, EELV MP for Lorient (subject to confirmation), Olivier le Nezet (subject to confirmation), and Fabrice Loher, Minister of the Sea (subject to confirmation).
