Officials with the Northeast Fisheries Science Center will hold meetings throughout New England about upcoming assessments of 20 stocks of important commercial fish species.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is using the assessments for information needed to set annual catch limits. The assessments apply to 20 different stocks of groundfish, including Atlantic cod, yellowtail flounder and pollock. Some of the species, such as Atlantic cod, are considered overfished. Others are in better shape.

The meetings will take place Wednesday in New Bedford, Woods Hole and Gloucester, Massachusetts; Hampton, New Hampshire; and Portland, Maine. Regulators say fishery stock assessment analysts will attend to meet with fishermen and learn about observations from the fleet.
