Women4Biodiversity has been working to advance gender considerations in the work of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, including co-convening the CBD Women’s Caucus to share, collect, contribute and engage in various deliberations in the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework (GBF) and the post-2020 Gender Plan of Action (GPA). We have brought together a collective recommendation in advancing a stand-alone gender target, Target 22, which is, as of this writing, gaining momentum for support.

This report discusses gender and environment linkages, women’s roles in biodiversity conservation, sustainable use and access and benefit sharing, international gender environment policy frameworks, gender considerations in the post-2020 GBF, and implementing the post-2020 GPA. It also lays out Women4Biodiversity’s advocacy roadmap to advance gender considerations in the post-2020 GBF, including reflective recommendations to incorporate collaborations with key partners in strengthening collective advocacy.
