The 8-minute documentary “Impact of Climate Change on SSF in Bangladesh: Voices from the Ground” brings to light the critical challenges faced by small-scale fishers in Bangladesh as they grapple with the consequences of climate change. Despite contributing minimally to global carbon emissions, Bangladesh, with its vast coastal regions, is among the most vulnerable countries in the world. Rising sea levels, frequent cyclones, and worsening floods threaten to displace millions and severely impact food security.
The film delves into the vital role that fisheries play in Bangladesh’s economy, contributing significantly to the national GDP and providing livelihoods for millions. Yet, small-scale fishers, the backbone of this sector, remain marginalized. They face economic hardships, limited access to education, and inadequate infrastructure, leaving them ill-equipped to adapt to the rapidly changing environment.
As climate change continues to alter fish habitats, disrupt breeding cycles, and increase the salinity of coastal waters, the livelihoods of these fishers are increasingly at risk. The documentary captures their stories of struggle and resilience, highlighting how these communities are adapting to survive.
