The General Assembly, in its resolution 73/292, decided that the United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development should adopt by consensus a brief, concise, action -oriented and intergovernmentally agreed declaration focusing on, and highlighting, the science – based and innovative areas of action to support the implementation of Goal 14.
